Audience

Our target audience will be for a wide range of people. the age for our target audience can range as high as 40 as pop in the genre that any range of age can listen to. Our particular song
and video is set for a audience of teenage girls ranging from the age of 11-25. The girls would be into fashion and make up as that is a main convention of our video. They might attend collage and enjoy listening to music. They could have a part time job and enjoy going out on the night.

Audience feedback

When our audience have finished watching the video we want them to feel as though they admire the clothing and make up that we are wearing. We want the target audience to feel like they really have been able to relate to what they are watching and enable them to feel as though it could have been them dancing in the video and attracting the attention of the opposite sex. The aim of our video is to make the viewers want to get up and dance with us so we had the moves accessible for people to learn, so therefore they are not to complex to copy. We want the audience to feel sexy as they dance to the choreography so it is important that that is how we come across the the target audience.

Audience engagement.

In order to engadge our audince we must keep them entertained in what they are watching. This means that no shot should go on to long as that can give the audience chance to get bored with what the are watching. The shots need to be quite choppy and include lots of visual light and camera angles to make it more interesting. The music in the video is quite choppy and has a few differant beats in the song. This therefore means that the video and dancing must be simular to it and cohere with the tempo of the song.

shooting list

We also needed to make a list of places were we were going to shoot.
we made a plan that would suit all of our schedules and decided that we would shoot the dance part of the video in the dance room in our school. this space would be a better place for us as it would be free in all the times that we would need it. We then decided that we should shoot outside on the zebra crossing to create the effect of as long shot that includes all of us dancing and walking together

loaction planning

For our video we need to decide were the best places there are to film to create the best possible effect for our video.

We decided that we needed to make best location shoot to fit in with the genre of the film. This is a shot of the zebra crossing that we will be able to walk across in time to the song. thease pictures also show the zebra crossing from another angle. We also have the stage were we we do our preformance with the dance routine and singing and finally the white back ground and steps were most of the single shots will be preformed.

Test Filming

To ensure our filming will work when we film the final piece we took the camera to the places were we are going to film and set up some test shoots. This is of high importance when making a video as it ensures that when you come to film the main peice less errors can be made on the day were we film for real. We were able to frame the camera to what we want to include and what we dont want to include, We were also able to to experiment with some high angle shots and some low angle shots to see if it would work.

We did a test shoot in the studio were most of the single shots will be filmed and we did some on the stage and outside.

It is important to check the lighting outside to make sure that we know were the sunw ill be shining on the day that we film, therefore we would be able to get the correct amount of lighting into our shots.

Editing

To edit our filming for our video we will use Apple mac computers. We will be able to have a backing track to support our video and then edit our video accordingly.

Stereotypes

sterotype questions.
atleats 3 posts
copyright

What different groups of people do you have in your genre?
In my genre i have young women singing and dressed quite pervogativly. The genre that we are following is pop and in this genre the majority of the music videos include young sexy women. However in the 'pop' genre the singers and dancers do not neccisarily have to be female. In my genre men can be found also however they must have the simular conventions o the women in the genre such as smooth looking and quite attractive.

What are the common stereotypes?
The common views of the sterotype of girl bands are girls that dress in very trendy clothes aswell as alot of make up. In the media today we see lots of drama about girl bands doing bad things. Such as in girls aloud in the media 'cheryl cole' had been in the media alot as they have been covering thier divorce. Girl bands such as girls aloud and the Saturdays are seen to be quite troublesome and are convetionally good dancers. All the girls and boys in the convention tend to be quite well groomed. They can be airbrished in teh photo shoots that they do therefore this could be a false perception of who they really are.

Are they traditional or modern representations?
Traditionally in the media, females were seen to be 'traditional housewives'. this meant that they conventionally had to stay at home and keep the house clean as well as cook the food. A typical image of the tradional women have a simularity of the modern as they are both technically well groomed. However over time the image of the women has evolved, this is due to teh moving of the times and more flesh and more pervogative clothing is able to be worn. The ultimate pop era was the 90's were band such as steps and the spice girls were made. this was a turing point for the media as a differant take on women in girl bands was taken.

What changes have there been in society which have impacted on the representations of your groups?
After the 90s were the spice girls were put together, society changed the way that women were seen. The girl band promoted such a thing as 'girl power' with this more break out women groups were formed and every year since the spice girls. Girls aloud wo were formed on a show called pop stars the rivals saw a new era of girls as they broke all sorts of records and alot of respect was found for girl bands in society. Orinigally in the past women were not to be promoted as sex symbols however as time has moved on it has become more socially acceptable for them to become more so after thease turning points.

Location

For our location we have decided to to the dance and most of the shots on the stage which is simular to the 'work' video. This makes it look slightly more proffesional as the actual video has the girls on a stage. We will also use the white back ground for the single shots, simularly for the photo shoot.

Shot Types and Creative Techniques

For our video and our photshot the shots that we will use are mostely going to use close ups, head shots and long shots.
We will use head shots to show the make up and the hair styles to fit the conventions of a girl band. This will also tye in to our close ups which will be used to show the emotion in our faces as we sing the song. We will use continuty editing to tye in the differant shots through out the video. Long shots will be used so that the audience are able to look at relate to the clothes that we are wearing. Shots like this will be used mostly in the dance to show all the group dancing together to create a better effect.

The importance of being able to plan your shots makes it easier to shot the video. It means that the actual video shot will be able to will go alot smoothly and the dance will be able to be chorographed in order with the shot sequence.

Logo and Promo

Rouge records.

For our company logo and promotional picture we came up with two ideas for it. we decided that the picture needed to conotate red and girly. we decided to have a black and white image and incorporate the red in the image to make it stand out and make our logo clear. we experimented with a cd to show that we were a music company along with a nail varish to show that 'rouge records' was a girl promoted company. However we decided that this image could look to busy and it could be hard to recognise without the actual word 'rouge records'. Our other image that we tried was a picture that included a picture of one of our group members and that looked simple but got across the idea of the company. We felt as though this image did this as we like to think that our music is so good that it would be 'shocking' not only that we wanted to include to red shocking colours through it and we decided that we did that well.

Company Name

We decided on a few names to name our group, once we decided on 'the sundays' we then began to start looking into company names.
As our company produces girls bands we decided to incorporate something girly into it as well and including the word 'records'.
Here are some of the names that we originally came up with:
sunday records
buzzing records
pink puff records
We then began to twist the words and began to look into differant languages, we decided on french as the connotates romance and looked at colours. we decided to go with red which translates to rouge, we then decided to change the second word to records to create a alliteration. all four of us decided we like this name and so we decided that our names was
THE SUNDAYS by ROUGE RECORDS.

Ideas For Album Cover

or for our music cover we have decided to follow the conventions of the original music covers from the original saturdays albums. in both of these pictures we can see that the saturdays are trying to look pervogative and sexy, in both of the albums we have noticed that each girl has a individual colour that they sport. we have decided that we could contrast this into our album covers to make it more recognisable as the sundays. Looking and comparing at both of these albums, we can see a differance in the colours in the at the back ground. the first one has a white back ground which makes them look slightly more innocent. for our back ground we will follow that certain convention as it also makes the picture look more polished and professional.

For our shoot we have decided to shoot it in a simular environment to the shoots we see above. we will most likely follow the conventions of the strait shot and not so much the low angle shot that we see in the second picture. this is because we would need more aparatus to preform such a shoot. also in personal preferance we believe that a long shot for the shoot will flatter our dresses more so also. Therefore this gives the audience a better view of the band and we can be more recognisable to potential buyers of the album.

The name of the album will most likely resemble our names 'THE SUNDAYS'. And the font will be simular to the covers that we see above. It will cover a majority of the album cover so that people will be able to recognize the saturdays strait away. There will be five girls, simularly to the saturdays cover and we will all be dressed in a stylish way.

The Saturdays - Forever Is Over Analysis

In order to decide which video that we would like to make we had to analyise videos that already exitsed to understand the convertions of what we had to make.
we have decided to do a girl band video most likely to be the saturdays: work or forever is over. this video connotates a pervogative girl band who are singing about boys that have let them down, and that they are able to be single and happy. The video opens with a pretty looking blonde girl swinging on a chair. Immediatly we notice she is wearing red, which dennotates a pervogative colour and she has mathing red lipstick to make her look sexy. The secene then goes to show us two more girls looking up at the camera as it is a high angle shot, this shows them looking vunerable as they are looking up at the camera sadly. By time the first girl begins to sing we have been introduced to each band member in tern so we are familiar with the band. The shots that a widely used in the video are closeups and head shots that show emotion. we also see long shots to show off thier outfits and their pervogative clothes and bodies. continuty editing is used to show each of the girls throwing thinsg around to show how 'mad' they are at being 'messed around by boys'. all the girls are wearing nice clothes that younger audiences would be able to recognise and would like to follow, therefore attention to make up and wardrobe (mise-en-scene) have been attented to accoringly.

The Saturdays - Work Analysis

The song that we have chosen to do is going to be work by the saturdays, in order to shoot and plan a effective music video for our target audience i need to analyise the music video itself.

The video opens with a grungy back ground and the music begins to kick in, we see a picture of the saturdays. the scene then quickly drops to a extreme long shot were the saturdays begin to appear. The back drop is light and we notice light come up in the back ground to show the saturdays walking on, they are wearing quite sexy ourfits which show off alot of skin and their hair is long to represent a seductive women. The shot switches from the girls dancing to perogative chorography to individual head shots of them. much like forver is over the girls are seen to be wearing clothes that younger fans and fans the same age as the girls can relate to. All the girls are in sync with their chorography, which is something we would like to add to our video. This could be something that is found in other girl band videos as a expected trait in a girl band video. the back ground in the scenes are repeated as the girls are filmed individualy, however as a audience we notice that the back drop and lighting is the same. This is another trait we would like to encorporte into our video.

The Song We Have Chosen...

We have chosen to re create the song by the saturdays work, the differant colours show the differant parts in the song that the individual girls in the band will be singing.

Baby the harder you work
the further you get with me.
With me.I think you can.I think you can.
Turn up prepared and make sure you can keep up with me.
With Me. I think you can. I think you can.

But be aware I always get what I deserve.
Keep your focus keep you nerve.
Ready.Set.Go.

Pick up the pace and step on it!
Rip up the place if you want it! Work!Work!

And it's up to you so tell me what I gotta sign.
Waiting at the finish line baby.

You know you gotta work!Work!
I got the goods and I want you.
Put your boots on baby get to work!Work!
You know you gotta work!Work!

final song choices. THE SATURDAYS

Our group has decided to narrow our decidion down to two saturdays songs.
the saturdays - work.
the saturdays - ego.

By picking the saturdays we have abled ourselves to have a variety of the girls with differant hair colours and styles to be singing in the band. The band consits of 5 girls who each on their own represent a differarnt style and type of women. Through their performances in the videos that we have watched, the saturdays represent women to be sexy by the pervogative clothes and hair styles they sport. the majority of the band have long and flowy hair with connoates a sterotypical 'sexy' girl. The clothes that they tend to wear in thier videos show alot of flesh and their make up is done up to makes them look flawless. This to the audience makes girls want to copy this style and look like the saturdays. this could be a negative however, as it will be very hard for us to airbrust ourselves to the point that the saturdays have been and the light and quitptment used to make them look so flawless would be very expensive to hire. Therefore we will steer away from this slightly, to still look sexy as we can but also to look real.

PICKING A PROJECT

Initally for our project we have decided to make a music video, prefrebly and girl bad. Our group consists of four girls therefore we have decided that a girl bad video would be easier for us to achive our target audience.
Our target audience will be girls and some boys who are interested in the pop industry. the girls that will like our band and our video will most likely be able to relate with the video therefore, dressing simular to them aswell as being able to relate to the lyrics. in order to create such a video our dress and song choice must be something they feel that they can achive and wear and feel as though they would be able to sing along with the video. our group have decided that we would be most interested in making a video such as:

The saturdays
Girls aloud
Spice girls

We will have to adapt our group to be able to make the song fit in with each of the singers, therefore we should take in to consideration bands that have four singers in them such as all saints and bewitched. however after watching the videos we feel that we would be able to create a musis video with five girls and apapt it into a four girl video or add a model.

creative techniques

With this task we were asked to go and film a scene, that includes the subject of suspicion.
We decided to make a effect that really creates an element of suspicion by including a dark figure or a figure of some one with their hood up which hides their face. The original opening of the video that we have made opens with a body on the floor, this opening immediately creates a sense of suspense as the audience do not know who did this or who the body belongs to. By the camera panning up the body of the killer the suspense builds. The music is low key and non diagetic it is parrael to the film as it also represents suspense. The task enabled us to explore different types of music and to experiment with what goes well with the scene we were trying to create. The video continues with the hooded character walking down the stairs and the edits are clever as that it shows a lot about the character, (how she walks, what she wears) but it still creates a element of suspense. The genre of our short clip would be thriller as it entails a lot of the elements that a thriller entails. Such as suspence which was the point of the task along with dark figures and a lot of match on action.
This lesson was a good chance was for us to develop our skills in terms of editing and camera work as we were able to see what went well and what does not look professional. In particular we looked at improving match on action shots, we did this by looking closely at the suspect and using editing to follow her actions.

strengths and skills to be developed

When i first started my AS production in year 12,
One of the first things that i had to do was my pre production. This meant that I had to analise past magazine covers, contents pages and double page spreads, this enabled me to study the colours fonts and type of pictures that magazines use to create the proffesional effect that i was going for. I did analyise my covers well but there was not real quantity to the analysis, I only analysised two covers really well and the other one was not really analysed well enough. what i think i did well in my pre production is that i looked well at what other magazines on my genre were set out, I think I analysied this quite well and therefore it enabled me to me make my magazine looks more realistic. Another weakness in my blog from AS is my pre-production i did not know enough about the target audience who i was trying to appeal to, after doing more research i feel that I have a better understanding about how to go about looking and people who my product will appeal to.

I had no idea at first on how to use photo shop, I am now able to make clear changes to my magazine to make it look better using more advanced tools on photoshop. I did not understand much about lighting and how to take pictures properly, now i am able to make the lighting right for my pictures and this enables me to make a much better overall product. A problem that i faced in AS is time keeping as I left a few things to the last minute when I should not have as that could compramise the end product and it could make it look rushed, however I feel that now I have a better idea on how to make my time alot more useful and get more tasks done in the times allocated to them.
Some thing that I feel went well about my AS production, is the way i used skills about how to lay out my magazine to make it look like a real magazine. It was done quite well and i feel i used a good deal of space in my product there fore there was no real empty spaces in my work, in A2 i hope to develop all these skills further.
